Yangon Strike Forces Urge Opposition to Census Over Security Concerns
On September 26, Yangon-based people strike groups announced that the terrorist military group's attempt to conduct a census under the pretext of holding an election was only an attempt to obtain the personal information of individuals, including urban revolutionary forces.
The statement indicates that the census is only a show of preparation for elections and is actually a scheme to gather information about the number of youth eligible for military service in each townships, the status of students and civil servants who participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), and uncover information on protest leaders and revolutionary groups in urban areas.
The strike groups' statement outlines various methods to oppose the census. It also encourages Non-CDM government staff involved in the census to stand with the public and hinder data collection to the extent possible, despite the pressure from the military junta.
