ULA/AA Statement on the Buthidaung Incident

ULA/AA

On March 20, the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) issued a statement condemning the terrorist junta for intensifying efforts by all means to incite racial and religious riots in Rakhine State, and offering to cooperate with the international community in areas where joint work is needed.

The statement said the terrorist junta is currently targeting and burning down homes owned by residents in Buthidaung Township while spreading counter-propaganda that makes it look like the ULA/AA's doing. It said that because of military tensions, the ULA/AA had, even before the fighting began, been asking local residents to temporarily relocate to liberated areas and helping those who wished to move, and continues to do so.

It also denied reports that some civilians in Buthidaung town were killed and hundreds injured by Arakan Army drone bombs, saying it had nothing to do with them and that they were baseless, one-sided accusations.

The statement added that it is ready to work with any impartial organization on the current situation in the Buthidaung and Maungdaw region.
