NLD-CWC Declares No Reconciliation Possible Without Meeting Party Chairperson

NLD

On February 8, the Central Executive Committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) issued a statement expressing its belief that political issues arising from the military coup cannot be resolved without the participation of the party chairperson, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, in any discussions.

After holding an interim meeting of the party’s second central committee, it was unanimously decided that all political prisoners, including the party chairperson, should be released as soon as possible through all available means. The statement also emphasized the refusal to recognize the military junta’s planned fraudulent election and to avoid any cooperation with them. Furthermore, it reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation with ethnic groups and revolutionary forces in order to dismantle the military dictatorship system.

The online meeting was attended by one member of the party's Nature Group, three members of the Central Executive Committee, 39 central committee members, 13 reserve central committee members, 20 regional and state executive committee members, and 14 members of the central affairs committee, totaling 90 participants.
