Reorganization of civil society organizations in a new way
In Statement No. 1/2024, Ta'ang civil society organizations announced that they have regrouped in a new form, following a discussion held from June 6 to 8 in Kutkai, Ta'ang State. The discussion was led by five Ta'ang civil society organizations and attended by 64 people, including leaders of the Ta'ang Political Consultative Committee (TPCC), the Ta'ang Land Education Council (TLEC), the Ta'ang Environmental Watch Group (TEWG) and Ta'ang media outlets, as well as youth representatives.
The discussion was led by the Ta'ang civil society organizations Ta'ang Women's Organization (TWO), Ta'ang Students and Youth Union (TSYU), Ta'ang Legal Aid Foundation (TLAF), Ta'ang Education Institute (TEI) and Ta'ang Health Organization (THO). Its aims were to share activities, to work together on politics and on human rights violations in the Ta'ang region, to strengthen connections, to set next steps, and to restructure the grouping of Ta'ang civil society organizations.
The statement said participants presented, discussed and reviewed each group's activities, compiled next steps, and assessed the current political situation through sector-based panel discussions. The agreement covers common commitments for sector-based work in the Ta'ang region, the form of the network, its restructuring, political positions and next steps.
The statement also said the regrouped Ta'ang civil society organizations are independent, free and fair organizations that carry out work benefiting the public and prioritize living together with other ethnic groups. It added that they will continue working to end dictatorship completely, build federal democracy and end majority chauvinism.
