On March 11, 1989, the MNDAA was formed under the leadership of the Kokang leaders, Pheung Jia Sheng. The headquarter is in Huongaing Valley, Konkyan township, and their active areas are Chinshwehaw, Laukkaing, Konkyan, Mawhtike, Mong Koe, Kunlong, Kutkai, and Lashio. There are four brigades, which are Brigade 211, Brigade 311, Brigade 511, and Brigade 611. The estimated strength is 7,000 and above. During the reign of Pheung Kya-shin, they split from the Communist Party of Burma (CPB) and had a ceasefire with the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC). Then, the Kokang region was designated as a special region (1) of Shan State, and a local government was established in the region and it was granted autonomy.

On August 8, 2009, they were attacked for refusing to accept pressure from the Burmese army to transform into a border guard.

In 2015, MNDAA was refused by the government/military to participate in the signing of the NCA. With China's intervention, the government and military agreed to hold talks by the end of 2018. uring 2019, MNDAA discussed with the government along with KIA/AA/TNLA, but no agreement was reached. Since 2020, talks have been suspended.

At present, it is led by Pheung Daxun as Chairman/Commander in Chief. The second commander in Chief is Yang Winxian, and the secretary is Pheung Ah Di @ U Tun Myat Linn, and the person in charge of external relations is Pheung Win Naing. MNDAA is an organization that is harmoniously working together with its alliance, with the revolutionary organizations that are fighting against the military dictatorship that emerged from the Spring Revolution, with the organizations that have common goals and can work together, and with the organizations that have public trust and support for getting back their control of the entire Kokang region which they temporarily left and implementing their military and political objectives of the Kokang organization.

MNDAA stopped the ceasefire with the military in March 2021 due to the military's shooting and killing of people who opposed the coup d'état on February 1, 2021. MNDAA has sent a letter to the KIA Chairman, General N'Ban La, which included planning to establish an administration mechanism in the Mong Koe region and administrative activities are also being carried out on the ground. From December 30, 2022, to January 1, 2023, the SAC continuously fired heavy weapons at the Mang Rang military base of Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Tatmadaw - MNDAA (Kokang), which is situated in the special region (1) of the Mong Koe district.

MNTJP is a member of the Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNC). Regarding foreign affairs, relations with China are good. 2023 In the statement of the FPNCC working meeting held in Pangkham on March (16), regarding Myanmar's internal affairs, the minority ethnic peoples in their border regions believe that they must build peace with the motherland of Burma and establish a federal democratic union.
