NUG declares non-recognition and dissolution of the military regime's Human Rights Commission
The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, established by the military junta, is not an independent, impartial, and respected body. Instead, it operates in line with the junta’s interests and opposes the Paris Principles. Therefore, the National Unity Government (NUG) announced on February 13 that it does not recognize this body and considers it dissolved.
The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, which was re-established on January 1, 2025, was formed by former members who acted according to the military junta’s directives. This commission is not an independent body, and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutes (GANHRI) has also stated that the commission does not comply with the Paris Principles. As a result, on December 31, 2024, GANHRI revoked its recognition and membership of the commission. This was highlighted in the NUG’s statement.
The NUG has also urged international governments and organizations not to recognize, meet, or invite this commission to any meetings.
