KNU Issues Mae Wah Klo Declaration on Governance and Public Administration
On May 12, the KNU Central Headquarters issued the "Mae Wah Klo Declaration", a handbook on governance and public administration to be applied in Karen National Union (KNU)-administered territory, after township chairs and township leaders from 27 townships pledged their commitment in unity.
The declaration is based on six basic principles: "Our commitment to the constitution of the KNU – Karen National Union", "Respecting and upholding good governance", "Protecting the rights of the people", "Collaborative effort", "Sustainable development" and "Continuous improvement".
The Mae Wah Klo Declaration also states that these six basic principles are the reason for building a prosperous, inclusive and resilient Kawthoolei for future generations.
