SSPP/SSA Issues Position on Territorial Disputes
On May 31, the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) issued a position on the territorial disputes in the region, calling on all sides to avoid actions that invite unwanted military solutions, and stating that it continues to uphold the principle of peaceful coexistence and to treat resolving political problems through political dialogue as its first priority.
The statement from the SSPP/SSA Information Department said that, because of tensions arising from territorial disputes between the SSPP/SSA and the Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta'ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA), central-level senior representatives met on April 21, 2024, and issued orders for frontline troops to follow. However, a PSLF/TNLA spokesperson has since told the media that it has "no desire to coexist peacefully". The statement said the SSPP/SSA objects to and condemns this, as it is inconsistent with alliance ethics and based on ethnic discrimination.
