UN Secretary-General's Office Calls for Compliance with International Humanitarian Law
On November 15, a spokesperson for the Office of the UN Secretary-General called on all parties, given the "expanding conflict" in Myanmar, to comply with international humanitarian law and protect civilians.
The spokesperson said that, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2669 (2022), regional and international partners should work together to end the violence, that civilians must be protected in accordance with international humanitarian law, and that violators will be held accountable.
The Secretary-General called for unimpeded access for humanitarian assistance and noted that the safety of UN agencies and their partners is also important.
He further reiterated his support for the people of Myanmar's aspirations for "an inclusive, just and peaceful future."
