People's Revolution Front

PRFResistance Force

The People's Revolution Front (PRF) was founded on July 6, 2021, when student unions, youth, teachers' unions, CDM education staff and political activists from across the country who had led and taken part in mass strikes against military dictatorship came together and held their first congress in a liberated area.

The People's Revolution Front (PRF) was founded on July 6, 2021, when student unions, youth, teachers' unions, CDM education staff and political activists from across the country who had led and taken part in mass strikes against military dictatorship came together and held their first congress in a liberated area.

In Announcement No. (1/2021)[1], it stated that its basic policies are uprooting military dictatorship, democracy and peace, and that it will stand and fight for the interests of the oppressed people.

On December 13, 2021, the front officially issued its "Political Manifesto"[2]. According to the manifesto, the front is built equally on political and military lines, and militarily uses both urban and rural guerrilla methods. The front is organized not around individuals but mainly around its membership, led by a political leading body (politburo), a central military commission and a central organizing committee, and aims for a federal union that can serve the interests of all ethnic groups and all classes. The secretary of the political leading body is Comrade Aung Naing Kyaw.

It receives the necessary military training and other support from the three Northern Alliance brothers.[3] It operates militarily in Magway and Sagaing regions and has up to four military regions.  Its departments include military affairs, central information, central data/research/documentation, finance and public relations. According to PRF statements, it began military training and demolition training in December 2021. It also held political discussions within the force at the same time.

At its founding through December 2021 it had only three military regions, and it officially announced that the People's Revolution Front (Pakokku Region), the People's Revolution Front (Yangon Region) and the People's Revolution Front (Minbu Region) are regional guerrilla forces[4] operating under the PRF Central Military Commission.

As a guerrilla operation, the PRF (Yangon Special Operations Military Region) first announced on March 27, 2022, that it had bombed the home[5] of the sister of terrorist junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on November 18, 2021.

The front began releasing military news in April 2022, fighting jointly in the battle at Sa Thein village, Pauk Township, with Pakokku Generation Z, the People's Defence Force Pauk Township, the People's Defence Force Myaing Township and the Pauk Allied Joint Forces.

The PRF operates militarily with allied armed forces in areas such as Pauk and Pakokku in Magway Region and Shwebo in Sagaing Region. On April 2, 2023, Comrade Watthan was killed while attacking, together with allied forces, soldiers under the terrorist junta at the gate of Shwebo University in Sagaing Region. He was the first PRF comrade to be killed, and was also vice-chair of the Pakokku Township Basic Education Students' Union (ABFSU).

The People's Revolution Front has now run basic military training up to Intake (7) and usually gives political training at night, but has not officially announced its strength. It has officially told the news media that when the terrorist junta enacted the forced conscription law and began recruiting soldiers, more than 200 people contacted the PRF, and that it would run military training Intake (8) from April 2024.[6]

To enable study not only of military affairs but also of political views within the force, it publishes the "Front Series" every 15 days, now up to issue (3), and distributes it in its areas of operation for the public to read too. Each issue of the Front Series includes the six major disciplines PRF members must follow and ten points to observe when dealing with the public.[7]

The Front Series' main policy is "organizing the front, organizing the people"; organizing the force means ensuring that every front comrade fully understands the front's next steps, and that comrades taking part in those processes participate as actively as possible based on understanding.[8]

Using both military and political means, the PRF also issued, on January 6, 2023, in the name of its military political department, a position titled "Objecting to and Boycotting the Illegitimate Sham Election of the Junta's Proxy UEC".

In its areas of operation, the PRF also provides security for local residents' mass strikes against the terrorist junta's coup, and carries out public service work such as political talks, relief for displaced people, and health education and treatment. It also usually carries out programmes to ease the hardship of war-affected people. [9]

On March 2, 2023, Spring Normal University (SNU) and the PRF – Education Sector issued a joint statement. The statement says they agreed to cooperate on education, and will cooperate on basic and higher education in the interim people's education sector based on four education programmes.[10] On May 9, it also issued a joint statement with Myanmar Nway-Oo University on cooperating on education.[11]

Militarily, the PRF currently continues to carry out operations together with the People's Democratic Organization/Army (PDO/PDA), Pakokku District Battalion (13), the Western Plain (LPDF), Ayeya West (Kamma Town PaKaFa), PDF Kamma (Kamma PaKaFa), the BLY People's Defence Force, and the Borderless Freedom Federal Column (1). In the more than three years since its formation, it has fought more than 60 battles together with allies in Sagaing and Magway regions.
