General Strike Committee of Basic and Higher Education - GSCBHE

On May 4, 2021, it is stated that the Basic Education General Strike Committee (BEGSC), the Representative Committee of University Teacher Associations (RC of UTAs), and the central executive committee of the Basic Education Worker Unions (BEWU) cooperated and formed the General Strike Committee of Basic and Higher Education - GSCBHE.

The objectives are:

(a) We will fight together with NUG and CRPH to end the military dictatorship and establish a federal democratic state, which is the historical responsibility of the Myanmar Spring Revolution.

(b) We will take up the CDM strike weapon and continue to fight until the fall of the military dictatorship. We will continue to effectively support the education staff who are being CDM in basic and higher education.

(c) We will work together with various strike committees across the country, including the GSCB, to raise the flag of the education strike movement as high as possible in various strikes and continue to fight. GSCBHE will continue to carry out the duties of the Federation of Education Unions of Myanmar (Temporary). If the interim ‌administration arrangements are completed successfully, it will stand as the Federation of Education Unions of Myanmar and will ensure to address the rights, and loss and damages of education staff, to strengthen the foundation of the federal education system that guarantees the right to self-determination, and to establish an international standard of education.

On December 20, 2021, the education cooperation committee which included the General Strike Committee of Basic and Higher Education - GSCBHE, the Representative Committee of University Teacher Associations (RC of UTAs), the Baic Education Worker Unions - Steering Committee (BEWU-SC), the Basic Education General Strike Committee (BEGSC), the Myanmar Teachers' Federation (MTF) and Technological Teachers' Federation stated that the education organizations will cooperate for the successful emergence of a decentralized federal democratic education policy.

On December 25, 2021, the Education Cooperation Committee held a "Consultation meeting on developing the Justice Policy/ Law on CDM in the transitional period, and on January 1, 2022, it stated that the Education Cooperation Committee will provide support for CDM education staff. The Federal Education Cooperation Network organized the One Year Spring Revolution of the CDM Education Staff Conference was held from January 25 to 26, 2022.

GSCBHE is also a member organization of the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC). Federal Democratic Education Policy (Second Draft) was discussed and approved in NUCC on May 8, 2023.
