CDM Medical Network

CDMMNMovement

The Civil Disobedience Movement Medical Network (CDMMN) is the first civil disobedience movement (CDM) network to emerge after the terrorist junta's coup.

It was formed on February 4, 2021, to connect and support doctors, nurses, pharmacists and staff from other medical-related departments in regions and states who joined the Spring Revolution and took part in the CDM.

Although it was initially intended only for medical CDM staff, it later also provided necessary help and support to CDM staff from other sectors who connected with the network. Its support began with contributions from those who could afford it, and it then ran fundraising campaigns for those who wished to donate.

Within five months of the terrorist junta's coup, CDMMN supported about 300 CDM participants, and during the COVID-19 outbreak in the country it also helped people who needed oxygen concentrators, operating in the manner of a civil society organization.

According to data compiled by the network, there are more than 30,000 people from the medical sector taking part in the CDM nationwide. On March 27, 2022, CDMMN joined education CDM forces to form the "CDM Movement and Struggle Promotion Cooperation Committee", taking a greater part in political activities. On that same date [in 2021], network member Dr. Thiha Tin Tun of Mandalay was shot dead by police while helping people injured when the terrorist police fired on and cracked down on young protesters. Before that, on March 14, Dr. Khant Nyar Hein of University of Medicine (1) was killed in Tamwe Township, Yangon. In August 2021, the network's KPay and Wave accounts used for support and assistance were shut down, and it lost tens of lakhs of kyat.

CDMMN is a member of the General Strike Coordination Body (GSCB) and has taken part in political demands and appeals to international governments, organizations and the United Nations. Beyond CDM support and political activities, the network has actively taken part in fundraising by the National Unity Government (NUG) and armed revolutionary forces, and is a fundraising organization officially recognized by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH). Together with Click2Donate, it ran the CDM Clicker campaign for battalion funds, as well as the "Spring Healthcare Heroes (SHH)" and "Medical Bag Campaign" programmes, supporting CDM health workers providing care to revolutionary members and displaced people on the ground; of more than 4,000 ground staff, the SHH programme alone supported over 1,600. It has also taken part in medical assistance for malaria faced by armed revolutionary forces and displaced people.

Some CDMMN members involved in political activities, CDM support, ground treatment and logistics have been brutally burned and killed by the terrorist junta. Ko Aung Ko Lin, a CDM health worker from Saw Township, Magway Region, was killed during interrogation on June 2, 2022, and on June 10, senior nurse Daw Zar Li Naing was tortured and then burned alive in Dan Pin Kan village near Myaing.

On May 11, 2023, Maung Soe Moe Naing (23), a second-year student of the three-year nursing and midwifery diploma course at the Nursing and Midwifery Training School (Pakokku), was shot dead by the terrorist junta while treating an injured People's Defence Force (PDF) member during armed conflict in Htilin, Magway Region; and on May 22, Maung Swan Htet (20), a medical Foundation Year student, was killed while fighting for the Spring Revolution in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region.

Dr. Zaw Htwe Aung, a Kachin doctor who took part in the CDM movement at the University of Medicine, Magway, and was treating displaced people in Sagaing Region, was arrested, held in Monywa Prison, and died during a prison transfer on August 15, 2023.

On January 8, 2023, together with seven other medical CDM groups, it issued a statement regarding Non-CDM staff repressing CDM health workers at the terrorist junta's behest, calling for the repression to stop immediately and urging revolutionary leading organizations to approve the civil servants' CDM policy (CDM Policy) as soon as possible without delay.

After the three Northern Alliance members launched Operation "10:27", CDMMN, together with other groups, donated 400 million kyat for displaced people, injured civilians and comrades during the operation, and jointly issued a statement with seven other groups in support of the operation.

On its social media page, the network posts health awareness, revolutionary mobilization calls and, under the name "CDM Voices", accounts of what CDM staff are facing, and it continues to carry out fundraising with other organizations.
