Policy Position on the Rohingya People in Rakhine State
The National Unity Government's Policy Position on the Rohingya People in Rakhine State was issued on June 3, 2021, as the policy position on which to base addressing "the suffering caused by the displacement of tens of thousands of people due to the terrorist military's violence in many forms and brutal human rights violations against the Rohingya people during events in Rakhine State over past decades".
The frequently cited policy position commits to repealing or amending repressive laws including the 1982 Citizenship Law, abolishing the discriminatory National Verification Card process, and enabling Rohingya people who have moved to neighbouring countries to return home voluntarily, with dignity and in safety.
