The Social Democratic Party (SDP) was formed on December 12, 2021, after holding its first national congress in the liberated areas, and after developing its structure and electing the members of the Central Committee.
Most of the party members are youth, progressive student union youth, laborers, and farmers who participated in the 2021 Spring Revolution, and the current member of the party's central committee and general secretary is Comrade Kyaw Ko Ko, who was the former chairman of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU). He is also participating in the General Strike Committee (GSC).
Even at the party's first congress, the party's way was decided to be (1) the way of anti-three types of militarism, (2) the way of people's armed resistance, and (3) the creation of people's revolutionary front.
The party has identified four enemies as its revolutionary strategy: which are military dictatorship (military ideology); bureaucratic capitalism; racism (chauvinism) and patriarchy.
The party's position on armed revolution is aimed at arming the civilian population, and the party's peace department is leading the work of building the party's armed forces. The party's common activities are advocating, propaganda, and fundraising.
As propaganda, the "Social Democratic Post" was published in February 2022, and it focused on not following the propaganda news of the enemy, and letting the public criticize the actual political/military situation on the ground.
More than a year and a half after the founding of the party, on June 21, 2023, the party manifesto was officially released through the party's Central Information and Communication Department and the press release was held. In the party's manifesto, five key features and nine principles of the party were mentioned and the formation of political and military that the party has been working on were also described. The SDP is currently working on building its own army and has given its members up to 2nd course of centralized political training for political and policy issues.
The SDP has also been involved in anti-election campaigns along with other coalition organizations to oppose the elections that may be held by the military regime.
The Social Democratic Party is also working to gain membership in The Network for Social Democracy in Asia (SocDem Asia), which proivdes supports to social democratic forces around the world.
