People's Independence Organization

PIAResistance Force

The People Independence Organization was founded on December 6, 2021, somewhere in Arakan (Rakhine), by union youths who had been active in the All Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU) between 2012 and 2021, and has the People Independence Army (PIA) under the organization. The PIO/PIA embraces social democratic political ideas and has declared that it opposes Burman chauvinism, the military-crony monopoly economic system and feudal thinking, and will stand fully with the oppressed peoples of all ethnicities. It has also adopted the line of fighting the "three militaries" (the military government, the military clique and the military bureaucratic machinery) in uprooting military dictatorship. It has declared that it will fight together with any organization not contrary to its policies to bring about a federal democratic state based on self-determination, the right to decide one's own destiny, basic social justice and social security.

It has declared that it will fight together with any organization not contrary to its policies to bring about a federal democratic state based on self-determination, the right to decide one's own destiny, basic social justice and social security.

The organization is founded on five basic policies:

(1) Fighting military dictatorship

(2) People's liberation

(3) Federal democracy

(4) Peace

(5) Achieving social justice

It also believes that, given the current state of the country, only a joint force can solve political and military problems.

The PIA has its base camp in Rakhine and took part with the Arakan Army in the fighting in Rakhine, including Operation 1027 battles in Rakhine State. Its main area of operations is Magway Region, where it is also expanding health, education and social work. It has strong relations and military cooperation with other armed forces that trained in Rakhine, such as PRA Magway, the Student Armed Force (SAF), the Asho Chin Defence Force (ACDF), the Chin Defence Force – Asho (CDF-Asho), the People's Liberation Front (PLF) and the People's Revolutionary Force. It has also built relations with other revolutionary and political forces in the lowlands. It has formed a brotherhood alliance with the Asho Chin Defence Force (ACDF) and carries out military operations and local work together with it.

In 2024, it took part in the Ann operation with the Arakan Army (AA), intercepting reinforcements heading to the Ann area and capturing Myanmar military personnel and prisoners of war escaping from the Ann area; on December 4 it captured and detained 12 prisoners of war, including one captain.
