The Asho Chin National Federal Council (ACNFC) was founded on May 25, 2023, to lead on democracy, human rights, national equality, self-determination and other matters for the Asho Chin peoples living across the country.
Asho Chin people live scattered across 39 townships in Magway, Bago, Ayeyarwady and Yangon regions, Rakhine State and Naypyitaw, with a total population of about 400,000. Although the ACNFC has not announced who leads it, it has a central executive committee.
It invited Asho organizations and individuals to contact the ACNFC to take part, as the Magway Region's three Hluttaws would meet with all minority ethnic groupings on November 4. Then, on November 28, 2023, together with the Asho Chin Defence Force (ACDF), it issued a "Position Statement of the Chin Ethnic Groups in Magway Region on the Law on Preparations for Drafting the Magway Federal Unit Interim Arrangement Enacted by the Magway Region Hluttaw".
The statement said that when the Magway Region's three Hluttaws met the Chin ethnic groupings via Zoom, the law on preparations for drafting the Magway Federal Unit interim arrangement was not discussed at all; that Section 10(e) of the law must be amended because it can ignore the wishes of minority ethnic groups; and that because the ethnic grouping name used in the "list of groupings and representatives within the Magway Federal Unit" in Chapter (3), Article 6(c) of the law is completely different from the name used in the 2020 election, the Chin ethnic people cannot accept it at all; therefore, the Chin ethnic groupings do not recognize the Magway Hluttaw's announcement.
The ACDF is an organization representing the Asho people and building Chin nationhood through armed struggle.
On June 26, 2023, the ACNFC led an online ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the death of Salai Tin Maung Oo, attended by Magway Region Chin Ethnic Affairs Minister Salai Aung Tun Min and Dr. Salai Tun Than. The National Unity Government (NUG) Ministry of Federal Union Affairs also sent a message to the ceremony.
The ACNFC also shares scholarship opportunities for new generations of Asho Chin people. On February 6, 2024, it issued an appeal regarding disagreements among forces in Chin State fighting the terrorist junta.
The appeal urged that, because of the formation of the Chinland Council and the drafting and enactment of the Chinland Constitution 2023 among Chin revolutionary forces, the formation of the Chin National Council – Mindat, the Zomi Federal Union and the Chin National Organization, and the emergence of other force groupings, the forces should resolve matters as soon as possible through meetings, negotiation and finding solutions among themselves, so as to bring about self-determination and self-government for establishing Chin State and building the Chin nation.
