Following a series of ongoing anti-junta protests in Yangon, four members of the protest alliance were arrested and have since lost contact with their families, according to a statement released by the Anti-Junta Alliance Yangon (AJAY) on September 21.
The four detainees are Ko Zaw Lin Htut (aka Pho Thar), a co-founder of the Former Students’ Union of Universities, who also works as a freelance photojournalist; Ko Aung Min Khine (aka Mae Gyi), a Youth Strike Committee (YSC) leader; and group members Ma Myint Mon Zu and Ma Hnin Ei Khine, both former political prisoners. The statement expressed grave concern over the safety and well-being of the detainees, who are believed to be undergoing severe interrogation and torture at the hands of the military. Their health and lives are at significant risk, the statement added.
